2008 is over.
I haven't updated in forever, so I guess now is as good a time as any. There have been some really fantastic things that have happened this year, as well as some not so great things.
The good (In order of occurrence):
* My beautiful niece turned 1 year old. I love that little girl so much. The minute I saw her I became a proud auntie.
* Jorge and I got married on March 8. It was the greatest day of my life.
* I passed the History 4-8 TEXES exam, so now in addition to teaching English I can also teach History. Namely, Texas History, which does not have a TAKS test.
* My sister got married. I was happy to be a part of it. I'm glad she liked my spur-of-the-moment church decorations.
* I worked on the English curriculum for 8th grade for my school district. That was really fun, and it made me very interested in pursuing a Master's in Curriculum. Of course now, I'm not sure I want a Master's at all, but that's another story.
* I got offered a 7th Grade Texas History position at my school. Yay! No TAKS test for me.
* We had an awesome weekend with a baby shower for my sister. It was really fun to spend time with my family and my husband.
* My nephew Liam was born. He is the most handsome little man. He is already getting a personality and he loves to talk. I enjoy being an auntie twice as much.
* My first Thanksgiving and Christmas as a wife were awesome. I love my husband so much.
The bad:
* I lost a student. He drowned while swimming in a canal in town. That's a hard thing to go through. As a teacher you want to be strong for your students, but you also need to show them it's okay to mourn a loss. I was able to talk with some of my students about losing someone, and I feel that this is going to be the group of students I'll be closest with.
* This next thing, I haven't wanted to talk about, but I'm going to use this post as a form of therapy. Most people didn't know that Jorge and I were expecting. We found out on November 7. We were thrilled. I was about 6 weeks at that point. Unfortunately on December 8, we found out I had miscarried. Because I wasn't showing any symptoms of miscarriage I had to have a D& C on December 20. We were definitely sad, and mourned our loss. Thankfully, the doctor says everything is normal, and Jorge and I are capable of trying again soon. I haven't wanted to talk about it, because I really hate sympathy. I know that God will give us a baby in due time. I know that it's not our fault. I just appreciate the prayers.
Jorge and I are ready for a great new year, and everything God has in store for us.
