My baby is one entire month old today, and what a month it has been! The first two weeks, he had tiny little cries, and was always sleeping. I'm not going to lie, weeks three and four have been rocky. His lungs are fully developed, judging by his LOUD cry, and he likes to fight his sleep. Jorge and I suspect he may have colic, but we're not sure. He doesn't cry all day long, every three hours or anything like that, but he can be a handful when he's fussy. Caleb loves to be rocked, walked, and sung to. He also really likes the white noise on the Sleep Machine app for iPhone. We discovered the backpack carrier is another way to get him to fall asleep, as is swaddling. Swaddling has to be done the correct way though, cause our little guy loves to wiggle his way out of a swaddle. He makes the cutest grunting noises trying to get free of it. Unfortunately he's had some congestion this past week. We've been sleeping with the humidifier and using saline drops to clear out his nose.
It has been incredible to watch him grow these past four weeks. It's also been really special to see what a good father Jorge is. He's definitely a natural.
Caleb's weekly "milestones":
Week 1
- Caleb attempted to hold his own pacifier at just 7 days old.
- Grandma and I discovered he sleeps better in the grown up bed. I vowed he would sleep in a bassinet...not going to happen.
- The belly button stump fell off, as did the plastibell ring.
- Caleb and mommy went to Grandma's Cantata in Harlingen.
- Caleb had his first Christmas Eve and Christmas. He sure was spoiled with lots of presents.
- This week he became really fussy at night.
- We had to take him to the doctor to get his congestion checked out.
- Mommy and Caleb slept through his first New Year's. The swaddling really worked because he didn't wake up to the sounds of all the fireworks.
- While Jorge was changing him, Caleb decided to hold himself up, and attempted to crawl away.
